HA1 to HA3 Moving across Harrow, done properly
Six things that decide a Harrow moving day. None of them appear on a floor plan, all of
them are settled at survey, and every one is a reason we measure rather than guess.
01 Four housing stocks, one borough
Period property on the Hill, Metroland semis through HA1 and HA2, Victorian terraces near the centre and Wealdstone, and flats around the stations. Which one you are leaving decides the day far more than the bedroom count does.
02 The Hill lanes decide the vehicle
Narrow, parked on both sides in places, and steeper than they look once a trolley is loaded. Some addresses take a full-size vehicle and some do not — which is worth establishing before the morning rather than halfway up.
03 Metroland volumes
A semi with a loft conversion, a garage and a shed holds far more than its floor plan suggests, and all three are coming. Two identical houses on the same road can be half a vehicle apart on contents alone.
04 Mansion-flat lifts
The interwar blocks near the stations have wide communal stairs and generous rooms, plus a lift fitted long after the building. The question is never whether there is a lift — it is whether a wardrobe fits in it.
05 Permits where it is controlled
Most of the suburb parks on its own driveway. The town centre, the station roads and parts of Wealdstone do not, and there the suspension is part of the job — with notice, which is the bit people leave too late.
06 Old floors want protection first
On the Hill particularly. Original boards and staircases are not places to discover that a corner was tighter than it looked, so the protection goes on before anything moves.
